Mouser puzzler (solved) ...
« on: December 09, 2012, »
I was thinking about populating that old v1 Lynx DMX dongle PCB I have and went to the BOM to see if the DC-DC converters were back in stock at Mouser (they are).

But I scrolled to the bottom of the BOM and found it had ballooned to $77. Looking, I found the USB converter -- part DLP-USB245M-G -- had zoomed from its traditional $25 to $41.75.

Wow. I couldn't believe that inflation had hit that hard.

I spent a lot of time looking up the part elsewhere (DigiKey had it for $25) and I finally went back to Mouser and noticed that somehow I had ended up with the New Zealand web site as my default.

When I switched my default site back to USA, the prices all went down again.

Whew. But I feel for the Kiwis ... it wasn't just the currency conversion; the DLP part is 36 percent more expensive down there than it is up here.
