Changes mostly involve the Sequence tab:
  • Added Life and Snowstorm effects
  • Node layout now shows string number
  • Added UpdateGrid button to Sequence tab
  • New Export button allows direct export of your RGB sequence to Vixen, LOR, and xLights (LSP and HLS will be added soon)
  • Sequence tab Open button now allows creating an empty sequence

Please post here if you find any problems or would like to suggest enhancements.

Norton is just telling you it doesn't recognize the software.

It mentions that it is possible to manually remove it from quarantine.

Everything looks good,  I like the ability to put multiple elements in the same time entry, but resizing the window to make it wider also resizes the preview window that does not help and it changes the preview aspect ratio.  Would be nice if the preview grid could be resized separately.  I'm talking about the whole grid, I know that each column can be resized.  I save all my effects as presets, I would prefer to see the preset name in the grid and not all the other gobbley gook that means nothing to me i.e, Text,None,Effect 1,ID_Slider_......  You know what I mean.

Did you try to make the preview window white?  It is still hard to see single strand effects in the preview window.  I like the new button arrangement.  Still do not understand layers.

Besides my pixel tree, I have 4 gutter sections and 4 windows as single strands.  Once I update the grid with a simple red green chase for the gutters and the windows and hit play I get a pixel tree showing the red green chase as bars rather than single strand as I click through each column.  At least that shows me the effect.  I've just created a short 20 sec new sequence that just shows text on the tree.  Now to go outside and test it.

Thanks for all your work on this.  It is great!!!

Matt; mkeeps getting better and better.

A couple of things.

When I create layers, your effect 2 is not the same as effect 1

Bars, Butterfly, Garlands and spirals are not animated, they are static. I set layers to effect 2, they are not moving. If i layer them or average them, the second effect is not moving.

The same settings for effect 1 and effect 2 produce different animations on meteors, text , snowflakes

In my Text effect, line1 uses color 1 and line2 uses color2, you use color1 for both.

In my single strand effect, i do not require the strings you use to be the same size.

You could have a 30 pixel, 50 pixel and a 70 pixel string giving 200 total pixels. You then can divide that 200 pixel mega string into multiple segments , say 50 pixels each, for four segments. I allow you to put a different effect on each segment. This flexibility allows things like wrapping a firestick, building a snowman, animating the tack on a horse.

Is there a way to see the channel assignments in the model? I only see string and node number. My 20x120 megatree starts on channel 857. I wanted to see that that has been done.

Maybe another button to show

channel#   String#   Node#

I would use this when i am laying out my hardware. I would not think that i would care about nodes 1 to 2400 but instead nodes 1 to 120 for each string.  If a person is wrapping a string into 3 strands, probably easier to count the nodes and know where the folds are if it is a count of 1 to max nodes on a string. Maybe others would perfer the 1 to 2400 count instead of 1 to 120 (in my case)

so for my setup

857     1     1
858     1     2
..
977     2     1
978    2      2

.etc.

looks great!

thanks

Matt; do you plan on supporting animated gif's?

I had two effect classes

gifs and pictures, you only have pictures in your effect list.

For gifs i read each frame of the animated gif and project on the target. I do not handle layered gifs correctly. Today, i just show each layer of a layered gif, rather than stacking them up on top of each other. Normal animated gifs work fine.

here is a normal gif of an animated flag

Thanks Matt. I keep getting a windows error Xlights has stopped working and shuts down. If I reopen it I can go for a while again before it stops. Have also rebooted with same results. Running win 7 64 with 8g mem on laptop. I have not played yet with program machine.

Note: I did do a dirty install of 2012e.

I have updated the 2012e download with a fix for these issues (they all stemmed from the same bug). I did not update the version since it was such a small change.

Hello Matt -
I am experiencing a problem.  Under the sequence tab when I select "Models" I immediately get a error window stating xLights.exe has stopped working . . . and shuts down the program.  I am running windows 8 64bit 8gb ram.   I had no problem with the previous release 2012d.

Any suggestions?

Awesome work on xLights!!

Cool Matt!

Now all of effect 2's look like they are working as expected.
