47k resistor burnt up channel still worked

47k resistor burnt up channel 1

i replaced it and the channel seems to work fine any ideas on what caused it

the channel had one rope light attached too it for my christmas show and ran the whole season did not find bad resistor until i took the display down

I assume you are talking about the snubber resistor between the triacs and the terminals.

If it was a 47k resistor, it was either defective or you had a really nasty voltage spike - like lightning 2 houses down... 

If it was me, I would assume that I swapped a couple of resistors when i was building it and would double check all of the other resistors on the board...

What is the wattage of the resistor and composition?

Some resistor types are more efficient that others.

Some are: Carbon composition; carbon film, wire, ceramic.

what ever came from coop originally
looked the others over they all appeared correct
we did have one really bad lightning storm in december
