Generally 1/8 inch thick aluminum will do a decent job at being a heat sink but the trick is to figure how much heat dissipation you need for the size LED you are using.

I have a few extra from the last coop.  They are .090 rather than .060, but work just fine.

Thanks,
-Keith

So I am not the only guy that got the buffing wheel and compound out to put a mirror finish on the heat sink...   ;D

I probably would have tried to buy one of the heat sinks off of you, but i realized after i done striped the light of the origional parts, that the 100 watt led i am going to use wont hardly fit into that light. The 10w (600-800 lumens) Red White Blue flood i made years ago just could not light up everything i needed to, so i am making a 100 watt (9000 lumens) version and making a custom case and everything.

Yeap, i want to light up the night. Mainly aimed more towards Halloween, so i can light up our big oak tree for lightning effects. The 10 watt version just did not have enough power to do it.

I am sure you have other uses for that 100w beast besides Christmas shows (and being seen from space  ;D) but there is no substitute for photo floods for Halloween lightning...

Yes, they really are less than $3 for 500W.  A stage classic, next to dry ice.  I suppose it is theoretically possible to use 16 of these on a LE for a total of 8kw...   :o
