two part question about vixen 2.1 and vixen 3
« on: January 19, 2013, »
part 1.        is anyone using the latest version of vixen 3? what are the differences between vixen 2.1? i am ready to start working on this years show and want to know if i should change over or stay with 2.1.

part 2.       how is vixen 2.1 with running the higher rgb channel counts? i am looking at going over 10,000 channels this year, and with me about to start my sequencing, i want to make sure the software is going to handle all the channels.

Part 1 = Nope still using 2.1
Part 2 = Vixen handles high channel counts well. Its needs a lot of memory since it loads the whole sequence in memory.

no real need to do a bump after only one day of posting a question

true, but if it's highlighted as posted today it tends to get a faster answer. i wouldn't normally bump any of my posts but i am spending all day today working on sequencing and lining up new songs for this year. i was anxious to get an answer from some one about the channel count more than anything. i have 6 songs on vixen 2.1 and really didn't want to switch. thanks rick.

From a sequencing standpoing Vixen did fine with my 8096 channel configuration (not all used).  But when I tried to use the vixen scheduler which I have used with no issue the last couple of years, by show computer with only 2gb of RAM gave me fits,  Switched to another computer with 6gb of RAM and it was ok.  Xlights on the other hand had no problem with only 2gb of RAM.  But I stayed with the 6gb of Ram machine anyway.  If your are going RGB you should look at the tools I highlighted in the post "must have tools for vixen"  still showing up on the first page under vixen..

The dealbreaker here is that RJ has not created Vixen 3.0 plugins for either USB or etherdongle yet.
Etherdongle - Vixen 2.1 only at this time
USB Dongle - Vixen 2.1 & 2.5 supported

Does it?

Any sequencer that supports E1.31 can be used with the EtherDongle. RJ doesn't have to write a driver for it.

Now if you have the USB dongle then the sequencer has to support the DMX or Pixelnet.

USBDMXPro  and E1.31  are both controllers in vixen 3
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!
