Help with getting started
« on: January 29, 2013, »
This is my first time attempting to use Nutcracker. I created an account, model and effect. When I submitted the effect it did not display and gave me this at the bottom.

"can't open file../effects/workspaces/1174/MT1~Fly1_d_1.dat"

Help Please

UncleBuck,

Was able to compile butterfly, bars, and wash (didn't try other effects) using your model under your name.

Not sure what was happening with your butterfly params (I think they may have been set too low for chunks and the like).  I mucked with a couple of params and it seems to work.  You would pick one of the more involved effects to start *LOL*

you had some wide range numbers in your butterfly effect.

Radian of 2.0, typical is 0.1, 2.0 will make the butterfly race around like crazy.

Background chunks = 27. Typical value here i zero.
Background skip=27. Typical value is zero.

I made those 3 corrections, here is the butterfly effect on your tree.

you might want to click on the gallery tab. There are nearly 8,000 effects that people have created. Click on an effect and give it a name, do this as many times as you want. at the very bottom of the form is a submit button. Now all those effects are in your effect library and you can build them on your tree.

Nutcracker effects autosize to any target so they should look the same. This is a qucik way to get a couple dozen effects that you might like to use in your show.

When i display the gallery i change the default size from 10 images to 200 images. I also use Chrome because it is more efficient showing animated gifs.

One user pulled up the gallery with his family on their large screen TV in their basement. He crolled through images and his family voted on which ones they liked.

thanks

The images in the gallery are not displaying. I assume this has to do with not using "Chrome"?

These are the bowesers u can use with nutcracker

Internet Explorer
Firefox
Google Chrome
Apple Safari
Opera

I use Chrome because it is a faster browser and renders the animated gifs quicker. You can get a free download from here

Images do not show up if you are using Inter Explorer. Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera all show animated gifs.

Got it working with Chrome. Do you recommend using Chrome for Nutcracker or just for the effects?

Thanks again!

i only use chrome on all my desktops. i have 6 computers at home. Once you login to google chrome, all chrome browsers will show the same bookmarks and other settings. this makes my browsers behave exactly the same. I have windows xp, 7,8 and Ubuntu Linux.

so yes, i would recommend you just use chrome.

thanks

May be a dumb question here, but i'm a fresher then fresh newbie with the software.  I watched the awesome youtube video on Vixen 2.0..beta 5  and he said he had a computer completely dedicated to, well lights.  No internet nothing.  I have a good computer lying around with a broken wifi card so i figured i'd use that.  But after reading the above I'm not sure.  Do you, or should you have the computer hooked up to the net? ???
