WS2811 strings
« on: March 23, 2013, »
The SSC V4 worked with the WS2811 string I finally got without any change. So the earlier SSC may work with them already, has anyone just tried as set?

That's good news I think I'll get a strip to try out.

I ran ws2811s last year with my v3 modded sscs I used 3 led per 2811 strips that ran on 12volt.  I did have some strings that would work with a different controller I have, but not with the ssc, but the ones that I did have working, worked for the whole month that the display was up without problems.

Is it fair to say that the SSC V 3.1 will work with the WS2811 chip?

That is the way I understand it, but I don't have anything WS2811 to test with.

I just tested Holiday Coro's rectangle 2811 strips with a V3 mod SSC's and they work albeit they are BRG but I can change that in LSP and X-Lights.

The new 1804 rectangular modules have a different color order than previous the version.  The color order on all my stuff is all over the place.   :o

I used the flex strip setting in the programming utility to get correct color order without changing sequences for color order.

Sam, who is happy he flashed his etherdongle with newest firmware!

Patience.... as the new Smart String utility will let you select any color order with the V4 (when new firmware is done) and the Zeus. Not sure about V3s RJ will have to advise on that one.

Just a note on the WS2811 flexstrips.  I received mine from Ray.  They work fine with V3 and V4 SSCs, but you need to know that they do not have individual pixel control.  You always get 3 pixels lit for every channel.  I bought some to use for arches and they will work fine in that application, but I also bought a few extra to play with for a small matrix and they would never have worked on that.  Fortunately I was able to sell my matrix stash to someone who could use them.  No more matrix playing this year, got to save up for more TM1809s or see what comes down the pike next year.

That's because the TM1809 is a 9 channel chip and the WS2811 is only a 3 channel.  Sometimes it really suprises me that the WS2811 works at all with code designed for the TM1809.

So that's why they are cheaper. Thanks for the info. I will stick with TM1809.

There are 12 volt 2811 flex strips that do have individule pixels. Not sure about price.
Have Fun!

Since they would need to use 3X the number of chips, I would bet that they cost more than the TM1809 versions.

RJ this is good news, as the designer for the SSC's do you have a recommendation as to number of pixels that can be utilized with the ssc's if WS2811?  With the original you had suggested upto 128 based on current draw, size of wire etc...  I have to assume that there is a difference as to possible number of pixels, any thoughts as to what it might be or what to not exceed before power inject becomes necessary?
Thanks.... btw as stated many times by many people thanks for all you do for this community!!!   <res.
