LED on LE
« on: April 24, 2013, »
Is it a bad idea if I solder my LED's about 1/2" above the board. It would make them really visible. Anyone have any cons for placing them like this?

Thank you
Joe

Won't matter. Only leaves legs up higher and easier to short out. That is the only thing that I can think of.

I personally would suggest a pair of glasses if a 1/2" would make them more visible. (JUST KIDDING!!!!!)

I do not see any reason that would cause it to be a problem.

Not necessary as they are visible when flush to the board. But they ARE your boards.....

Does not matter,  especially if you put them in a case.

The shortout is a good point, maybe a couple pieces of skinny shrink tube on the extra length legs.

Thank you all for your input.
yes, the shorting out due to bugs or something else making contact was also my concern.
ok, thanks again for chiming in  :)

Steve I already wear glasses, but as I age glasses have little effect    :-[ <fp.

I was waiting for someone to chime in with pictures of their LE case that had custom light pipes installed so that you could view the LED's when the case was closed. :)

Make the LE LED's part of the show and visually check them from across the yard or have the front of the case facing the house and you can spot-check from the warmth of the living room. :)
