My single strand wishlist
jnealand:
Here are some thoughts I have on single strands. Knowing how you guys operate, you probably already have all these on your list. These are just things I have been thinking about.
Single Strand wishlist
chases with a choice of colors and number of contiguous pixels
choice of gap length in pixels before starting next chase
choice of second color on a chase so that a gap could be another color or no color or fade between colors
choice of direction
choice of speed
fade / ramp option for tail end for use with multiple pixel option
collisions
two chases starting at opposite ends and passing thru each other
same options as chases
color washes
one color fading in or out
two colors fading in or out
choice of fade speed
choice of / limits to brightness - both high and low
twinkle / random effect
choice of percentage of pixels
color choices - all colors, one color, two colors, etc
mms:
I have most of these effects built (to similar specs as you mentioned) in a series of independent Python programs. My hope is to meet/talk with Sean on how to share them with Nutcracker.

that is a great list!
and its great to hear that the python scripts can be added to the cause!

Why wouldn't spirals meet your need for a chase? Spirals have many of options and they work great on single strands.
Also note that the updated meteors effect in 3.1.1 works well on single strands when displayed using the left, right, implode, or explode option. The only thing with meteors is that they trigger at random times.
And while true collisions aren't there yet, you can set Effect 1 to spiral in one direction and Effect 2 to spiral in the other, set mixing to layered and come close.
