Just so I'm sure about the cable

I know this is answered elsewhere, but I thought I'd just ask to clear this up in my mind.

The Cat5 cable that is used between each LE - Is this cable any different from the patch cable I use between my switches and networked computers (what I'd call a patch cable) or is it wired as a crossover cable? Or is it different from both of these?

For some reason, I just haven't been able to clear this up in my mind.

Yes.  The standard patch cable is correct.    Do not use the cross-over cable.

i'm confused - what is the difference between cat5 and cat5e? Also, if Imake my own cables, does it matter if the cable is solid wire or stranded? Any help would be appreciated.

Stranded is more flexible and more expensive also make sure the plugs (connectors) are for stranded.

Most of use are using solid with no ill effects.

cat5e is just spec for higher speed
