Mounting of nodes
« on: August 25, 2013, »
I'm trying to figure the best way to outline the roof of the house with 12mm pixels. I'm figuring it will take about 400 or so lights attached to 1/2 PVC. So I tried a small test this afternoon and it's going to be a heck of a job. Have a look at the attached image and let me know what others have done to mount these lights.

Here is what I a doing this year.
Last year I used this strategy on my window frames and worked great. A lot of tape but since they are on my lower windows the wife wanted them to look good. This year I am outlining the house and having ray make them with white wire.  I had about 400 nodes on my windows last year.

Here is how I attach them. White PVC snap clamps from flexpvc.com

The snap clamps look sharp! I was thinking about clamps and screw the clamps into the roof (once I can figure out where the studs are). Definitely will be doing something like that for the windows though. Also this fall we are debating about new windows on the house. They are ~30 years old now...this decision is leading to some procrastination about mounting...that aside, the taping in the first set of pictures, wow...yeah, that's a lot of tape. I do like how they stand up though. I will have to play around with some tape and see if that's a ton of work too...or something I can digest. Drilling out the pvc is an option, but i'll need to invest in a drill press if I go down that path. I did my arches by hand, but that was just 120nodes so it was tolerable.

I have white trim around all my windows and in my house so it blends right in. I am in the Pacific Northwest and hopefully they are not to brittle after a year. I screwed them in with one stainless screw. Should be a snap to put them up this year. I'm hoping the white wire will just require a few wraps of tape on each side of a node
