IIRC chip replacement?
« on: November 04, 2013, »
I read in an earlier post the the IIRC chip the controls the express is not longer available.  Is this correct?  How often does this chip fail if ever.  Has anyone found a supplier that still has them available.  What will be the future of the express?

Not sure what IIRC chip is but. As the electronic world move to smds. More and more chips and other parts will be obsolete.

That said RJ has purchased a quality of chips for the 7 segment display. The RS485 chip has a drop in replacement so that is not a problem.
At some point the current PCB will have to be redesigned.

I don't see the diy version of the LE going away anytime soon. Updated sure
I have been using my LE's since 2008 with no problems with failed chips.

Lets say that I loose a chip because of ESD shock.  Do I really need it.  Does it only control the display?  If this was the case.  I could always use a chip from another express if I needed to view the display.

LOL, yea, one of the cats smashed the keyboard on this notebook and more times than not, letters get missed.  It figures that the time I decide to bust on your spelling error, I do it myself.  LOL, good catch.   <yk..
