I don't have a USB DMX dongle, and I don't really want to rig up a jumper, pull the pic, reflash the pic, reinstall the pic, hook up all the stuff, program the aether, check the programming, pull the pic, reflash the pic, ininstall the pic.

Is there some "secret" technique to get them set to something else?

Alan

The dmx route works so well I just do what you describe (but for my dongle).  Only took a minute.  I will say having a dongle for programming is almost a must since my etherdongle is setup as conductor...

Sam, who is happy he flashed his etherdongle with newest firmware!

I went looking for that last night and did not see it on the wiki page.  all of them list USB DMX dongle only on the software page.

Someone have the link that I have missed a couple of times looking?

I was having issues using Ricks utility and sent him a PM.  He later explained that he is not confident that his software working working well with the newer gear and said he was taking it down.  Maybe he already did.

You can try this method used with MR16 with Aether2 I believe.

I liked it too.  Used it quite a bit and it was game changer for me when it came out.  Hope Rick gets time to update it.  I think I was successful most but not every time.  I got frustrated with it and finally reflashed my dongle to dmx and used RJ's utility and it was rock solid.  Small price to pay to crack the case and whatnot.  Programmed 5 aether IIs and all worked like it should on first try.  Flashed dongle back to pixelnet and went on my merry way.  Somebody much smarter that me recommended getting the jy1s board when I bought my pickit...

I am trying to get some clarification as to using Lynx software with an etherdongle flashed dmx in a thread about pixelnet aether firmware...

It appears the only way to program the aether sans dmx dongle/with the etherdongle is to flash it dmx and the vixen trick.

Has anyone tried using xLights to program the start channel?

In theory it should just fine with the etherDongle
Use the Test tab and set the value you want 0-255
Use the first two channels on the universe you are using.
If you need finer control try the RGB background where you can control both the first and second channel

(ps. Sorry about my programs, I just don't see them coming back anytime soon)

I've used xlights in the past to do programming (i was having problems with the utility working).
i mention the difficulty in assigning channels above 255 because all enabled channels will get the same intensity.

I may have to bite the bullet and pull the pic on the dongle, I have a pair of SSR4 to set the start address on as well.

Thank you for the assistance gentlemen.  Perhaps it will assist someone else with the xlights method.

I used your method with xlights  about 2.5 years ago for my Aether II's. I don't remember for sure If I used my etherdongle and the DMX out on the smarthub or my DMX dongle.
