Single channel remains dimmed all of the time
« on: November 30, 2013, »
I have a single channel that is always lit and stays on about 50% brightness.  It can still be controlled, going to 100% but returns to dimmed.  Any ideas?  Bad triac?

It is either a bad triac or a bad opto coupler (the little black chip). Swap the opto and see if the problem persists. If it does then you have a bad triac.

You are not the only none with this issue. I have the same problem with on of my controllers too. Bad triac on mine.

I thought the opto was the white chip?

Now what causes a triac to go bad, an overload on the channel or ??

Usually a short to ground but yes overloading the triac would do it.
