Zeus Setup Issues
« on: June 17, 2014, »
I have a Zeus 8 with an Etherdongle.  I got PICs in both the Etherdongle and Zeus programmed a couple months ago (Thanks to some help from folks here at this site).  Finally got my shipment of lights from Ray Wu along with a tester.
Used tester and to confirm lights work. OK
When I connect all up and run the Zeus Smart String Utility...I get transmitting and nothing happens.  No flashy light.

PC attached to Etherdongle MagicJack.
Etherdongle Power connected via wal wart.
Black RJ45 on Etherdongle direct to Zeus pixelnet input.
Zeus Universe is 1 and 1.  Program Jumper is on.
Zeus Power connected to PC Power Supply 12V.
128Ct Ray Wu string node Lights as per Wiki.

Reconfirmed PIC programs in Etherdongle and Zeus Pic 1.

Need ideas on how to troubleshoot issues.

Make sure that you are using latest version of the Zeus smart string utility from the wiki.

Do the yellow and green lights on the MagJack light up OK and do they flash faster when transmitting data? If not, there may be an issue with your Ethernet connection or Windows may not be allowing it to connect.

If the Ethernet connection is OK, you could have an issue with the Etherdongle or the Zeus. Have you used the Etherdongle with any other hub? Do you know that it works?

Some pictures of your setup and possibly a screenshot of your settings in the smart string utility may help.

After reading your advice on the magic jack light.  Was wondering if I needed to use a network switch between PC and etherdongle.  Soon as I connected lights started flashing.  Seems to have programmed.  Next step is xlights  to test.  Wish me luck I will try it out tomorrow.  Going out for late Father's Day dinner.

This tells me you need a crossover cable and you can remove the switch.
