I'm having a problem
« on: June 18, 2014, »
I just finished my V2 board last night. I plugged in 12v power, and nothing (no lights). Well the voltage regulator started to heat up quick and hot (heat sink is installed),so I unplugged it. I was in full OCD mode while soldering. All solder joints look great.

Where/what should I do to start to solve this?

Thanks for any advice

Mike

Make sure the voltage regulator is not installed backwards and that nothing is shorted.

Post some pictures of both sides of the board.

I'll post pictures when I get home. I installed the VR just like the pucture showed in the bulid instructions.

At 12 volts it will get warm but it should not get hot. Please post good quality pictures when you can.

If you leave the so card module out does it still get hot. How hot is it getting? Does the green led flash at all. P'S the pictures look like you did everything ok.

Make sure your power adapter has the inside positive and the out side negative. Then pull both IC's and apply power then if it does not get then insert the small IC (485). I only programmed the 328 and verified they all worked. If it still gets hot with both ICs removed it has to be a short somewhere or the vr.

What power supply are you using?

OKAY!

Tested the power supply for polarity, and my 12VDC was putting out 15.4VDC!!! shock! Found another power supply 9VDC that was putting out 11.4VDC.

Plugged it in, and nothing (no lights, but NO HEAT on the VR)

Pulled the chips, installed the small one - nothing
installed the big chip, 1 green flash WOOT, WOOT

put it all together, and 7 green flashes, no heat yea.

I will now debug the 7 flashes...

THANKS A LOT

That indicates that the unit is working, it just can't read one of the required files on the SD card.  You are almost there.
