Lynx Express-Channel 1 is Fried

Last year, channel #1 shorted out on one of my LE's.  Not exactly sure what caused it but the rest of channels are still working fine.  There are small, black charred circles around the output (will post pics later today).  I only get sparks when i plug in a light string.

Any thoughts on what component could be FUBAR.

Without seeing pictures I would say at the very least the triac and resistor if your board has it. Also until repairs are made try not using the express. Check for shorts on the board like solder across the triac/output terminal
