newbie with questions

new to xlights/nutcracker just downloaded 3.4.13 followed pdf tutorial and tutorial on vemo got to step 29 clicking under the model to list the effect just before updating the grid. when I click in the column it highlights the cell but does not put and Info in it I have gone back to the start and followed the tutorial 3 times always ending at the same point. what am I doing wrong. also as a side note I can not select lor nor new musical sequence after selecting the file folder only vixen and new animation is that normal

use F5, update grid. have your cursor that you want to update, set all effects just right. press F%. cell gets updated data.
