Begging
« on: November 15, 2014, »
Okay, I've gotten way behind this year due that four letter word...work... I am looking to borrow a couple of megatree sequences to finish my show.  I need TSO Wizards and the theme from frozen "let it go".  If anyone can help me out that would be great. Thanks to Sean and the other developers for Nutcracker.

Sincerely,

Marshall Rice

I for one am not a good sequencer but I have found that using the random effects button seems to work just fine.  It is not a typical sequence process, but an acceptable one.  After viewing what was generated I go back to the nutcracker tab and protect all the segments I like and then either manually create new ones or reclick the create random effects button to get something different in the ones that are not protected.  Repeat until you are happy with the results.

try setting morph on
also lock all the sliders on the left side of the screen
set Colorwash on Effect1, locked

This makes a pretty good set of effects.

In your show directory there are 55 song timings
look here C:\Program Files (x86)\xLights\songs
Buy the music (look in readme file to see links)
do a File Open, "New Musical Sequence". Clcik Audacty file
Give the name of the sound file and audacity files
save

In this example Morph means to cross fade between effect 1 (Colorwash) and Effect2

Thanks Sean,

I used Nutcracker for my arches last year, but replaced my LED megatree with pixels this year. I have 10 songs in my rotation, so it takes awhile to sequence all of them.  I haven't tried the random effects , but this looks pretty promising. Thanks for all your help.

Am I missing something?  I looked in my Xlights / songs directory and only see a few (6 or 7)...do I need to go "grab" more?  I understand I need to go buy the music...just looking for the timings...

There was a period where the songs directory was not being populated, but it has been for the last couple of releases.  You should be at least 3.5.2, but 3.6.4 is even better.

I would not lock the sparkles slider as it provides some nice looking effects.  But I definitely say  you must lock the brightness up.  I have had a number of random effects come up as a black screen, but in reality the brightness was all the way down to 0.

Okay, so I used random effects and built a really nice library of effects. We lit up Thanksgiving night. This was so easy compared to programming 128 channels in LOR that I feel guilty.   :)  The display, especially the tree and arches, looks great!

Thanks for all your help!

I'm jealous also.  I am in the same boat as you Sean.  Hoping to get my show going this weekend as well.  Random effects will be used as well in most of my sequences, as I am running out of time.  :)

Yep, it gets you a sequence that most of the audience will like. You then keep upgrading the sequence and just push out the new ones.

A couple of hints on "Create Random Effects"

try locking the Morph button. Morph means cross fade
lock down Effect1. This will keep it so it always starts with effect 1 and morphs into effect2

Click create "Create Random Effects" (CRE as abbrieviation)

Next pick colorwash in effect1 and lock it down
CRE

Next
Colorwash effect 1, Twinkle effect 2. Lock color palette to be just BLUE and white
CRE

If you have multiple models, Shift clicking CRE will make every model on a row have the same effect and colors. This can really cut down on
the cacophonous  generation that you get with a simple CRE.

good look

Sean,

Did you get your display up? I feel guilty taking time away from your display so you can help all of us. Again , Thank you for your hard work.
I added a short video of some of our new elements.
