Crossover cable from another brand equipment
« on: December 08, 2014, »
I have purchased several Lynx expresses and need to create a crossover cable to another type controller
I believe the expresses are Data on Pin 1 & 2
The other controllers I have are Data on 5 & 4 and 1&2 are ground
My question is does the express have anything on pins 5&4 that would prevent me from make a unidirectional crossover cable, just want to make sure there is nothing on 5&4 that going to a ground would hurt.
Thanks
Brian

No problems with cross-over cables.
There is no ground with the Lynx equipment, so just ignore that wire and connect DMX+ and DMX- (only).

There is a page with common DMX pinouts:

Thanks Steve
The other diy controllers I am using are not listed but just wanted to make sure the express didn't have anything on 4 or 5 that could cause i problem.

you might find screwy people like me who do power-over cat5 -- like the pixelnet to SSC solution.

This allows me to send power to a row of DMX-controlled elements.  I think LEs just do a pass-through on pins 3-8... so I can just insert an LE between DMX elements and pick up the power on the other end.

the crossover would need to happen before my power injection.

(sorry for confusing the issue...  you'll be fine!)

btw, some people will create a crossover cable that works well in BOTH directions... rather than connecting the ends with just 2 wires, use four instead...    1+2  ==> 4+5    and  4+5 ==> 1+2

Steve
that is why i was asking this question because I was going to make the crossover so it works either way so you don't have to wonder if you plugged it in right ...
Good to know that pins 3&8 are pass through for future reference.

...actually, I was saying pins 3 through 8 get used for power injection.

The DLA wiring scheme uses the pins 3,4,5 (white/blue, blue, white/green) for +12V and 6,7,8 (green,white/brown,brown) for ground.

To further complicate things I use the Holiday Coro wiring scheme (since I learned about power injection first from David Moore).  This scheme uses the striped wires for +12V and the solid colors for ground.  (easier, IMO)
