Thanks John. Received mine yesterday but I didn't see the extra free time to build them in the box.

Must have been out of stock. Is there an substitute part number for extra time?

I can sell you some for $45 an hour!   ;D

Got mine the other day, thanks.

Started to build today and found the the holes for the connector strip are to small for the connector to fit in, am I the only one having a problem?

Jerry

IF you ordered multiple kits, try another set of strips. I have had this issue in the past, and it appears it is variations in the pins on the connector strip, not the size of the pc board holes. I just experienced it this morning with a set of strips from the current co-op shipment, grabbed another set of strips left over from a previous express build, and they fit fine.

With the alignment of the connectors, I always start on one end and work my way to the other if they don't slide straight in.

The pins sometimes aren't exact and move around, whereas the holes on the board are designed to the specs of the data sheet of the part.

Out of 4 that I have built so far, I've gotten all of them to fit.

Hope that helps.

Its not an alignment issue..its a pin diameter issue.

I built probably 10 boards before I ran into the problem.

If you assume the holes in the board to be consistent, which logic tells you they would be, the variable is the pin diameter for the connector strips, my guess is, the tolerances exceed the board hole size. And being that I have found variations in those strips, that pretty much confirms it.

The quick fix is:

1. try a different set...and since they come apart, you can pin it down (no pun intended) to the exact offenders.

2. use a small drill to (slightly) increase the board hole size.

Long term, increasing the hole size on the board for future runs, is the best fix.

You would actually be better off filing down the pins.  Drilling the board is a bad idea.  The copper traces are thin and drilling out the holes can tear the trace from the board if the bit starts to get dull and the board material can quickly dull a HSS drill.  IIRC, the holes are also plated and drilling them can remove this plating and also can cause the traces to tear.

(sent before finishing my thought)...in the time spent filing, you can insert a new set...

tbone is correct. I've looked at all 7 of mine now that you brought this up and all of mine fit, however some pins feel like they have a burr or are larger at the tip. I would try filing the pins before drilling out the holes or before ordering new connectors. Especially if you don't have spares laying around.

Valid point. I was fortunate to have extras. Would be curious to hear from anyone who went the filing route and how much effort they put into it before they achieved a fit.

My first thought was to drill but do to the plating in the hole I knew that was not a good idea.  My thought is that it is the plating on the pins or just poor tolerance in the manufacture.  I don't have extras so Ill try the file and gently push them in.  I was just checking to see if I was the only one having a problem.

My bad on the drilling suggestion, didn't think that all the way thru.

Out of 5 kits, I have at least 2 sets that are a problem, and no spares left. Looks like I will also be doing some work on the pins to see if that can easily solve the issue.
