Does sunlight affect the life of L.E.D.s?
« on: August 10, 2015, »
I recently installed a new L.E.D. emergency light outside by the back steps of a café. The fitting will probably get two to three hours of medium/strong sunlight falling upon it every day in the summer months, depending upon cloud cover.
Does sunlight affect the life of L.E.D.s? Will it damage them or shorten their life?

It shouldn't effect the life of the LED.  It may cause some minor damage to the lens over the years but I doubt that you would even notice it in light output.

the pixel shell/lens may discolor.
i also have the inside of the pixel, the pcbs showing what looks like oxidation at the solder points.  they still work, though.
