DMX Light Dimming Board to control LE
« on: November 05, 2015, »
Hello all, has anyone ever used a DMX light dimming board, similar to one use for theater or stage shows? I was thinking of using one and doing a Halloween theme show for next year.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated? I will be connecting to LYNX Express for this situation.  Kevin

There should be no issue with that.  The LE is a DMX device and will respond to any valid DMX controller.  The only issue that you may have is creating the adapter to go from the typical controllers 3 or 5 pin DIN connector to the RJ485 that the LE uses and those can be found in the WIKI.

Keith or Tbone I assume I am going to use the 3 or 5 XLR to LYNX RJ-45?  I do appreciate the guidance. Kevin

Yes, depending on the connector your controller is using.  Also remember that the LE does not use the ground pin, only the signal positive and signal negative.

I have used boards like these all the time and one should control the LE just fine, but as mentioned the most difficult aspect is connecting it.  Most likely a connector like this will work, but research the pinout: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Check manual of the board to confirm 3 or 5 pins and if dmx out is male or female but 90% likely the above.

Properly connected the board should work great for halloween or other things real time.  Also be cognizant not to overload the LE like hooking up high wattage floods/flash bulbs.  250w max.  My par can floods are 1kW...
Sam, who is happy he flashed his etherdongle with newest firmware!
