Reduced distance with 7517 DMX chip?
« on: November 22, 2015, »
I have an Express running on Cat5e about 300' from the splitter. It would not respond to DMX even though the data light was on constant. I plugged my Bobcat tester into it instead of the DMX feed and it worked fine, so I was convinced it was a bad RJ45 crimp. I used my cable tester and all 8 cores were correct. Changed the Express for another and it worked right away. The first one has the 7517 DMX chips and the replacement has the old 485. Anyone else had distance issues or got any thoughts on what else it might be.
I was going to swap out the 7517 chips for 485's instead but as its now buried under six inches of snow here in Michigan I left it alone for now.
Thanks
