I always do that ssc v3 mod ... it really makes them quite reliable and perform a lot better.

The toughest part is cutting the one connection and then I pull a strand of wire out of a cat5 cable to make a cheap
jumper and just solder it between the two points ... upgraded!   You can scratch out the connection with a little
effort, or use a dremel to just get rid of it if your handy and careful.  I always test the severed connection to make
sure its not working on a continuity test anymore.

If you have anyone local to you with a working SSC, that might also be something to consider.

Ok, had a friend come over and we did the v3 conversion and that seemed to fix it. Still working on 1 last one that we decided the cat5 pigtail was a little too much corroded and wasn't getting sufficient power. It is either that or we need to change out the resistor. Thanks for the suggestions.
