« on: July 12, 2009, »
Sorry i am new here but a quick question.

i want to do  a color wash using mr 16.  how do i hook them up to the lynx. do i plug directly in to the board or since they are 12v do i need some other type of board or 12volt supply like the computer power supply? any help would be great.  Thank you so much.

I think there is a pretty good description of what it will do in the wiki.  You can get there by clicking on the WIKI link in the green toolbar at the top of the forums.

The quick answer is that yes you need a DC power supply to make the MR16 work.  The Lynx dongle supplies the DMX information and is plugged into the MR16.  The MR16 takes your DC current from a power supply and uses that to fade the outputs as you tell it to in software.

Hope that helps.

Josh -

If you google around you can find instructions on how to convert a PC power supply to a DC supply for something like this.

That is exactly what I use on mine. You can pick up units from You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login for $19 all the time on sale and they will run maybe a hundred mr16 lights.
