DIY exterior extension cords

What do you all use? I can’t see spending $8-$20 on cords from HD or Lowes. Can you use SPt and vamp plugs outside?

I use SPT1 and vampire plugs for AC lights.  Not as durable as an outdoor rated extension cord but they get the job done for me.

Most do,  It really depends on how much current you are pulling.  I use 12g cables from my distribution panel out into various parts of the yard where it is further split into smaller cords going to the props.  I don't currently use vamp plugs yety but I do use a whole lot of those indoor low cost cords.
If at first you don't succeed,
