LED Display On Backorder
« on: September 05, 2009, »
Anybody try running the LE without the LED display.  I was just curius as they were on back order and wandered if we could just wait for the back order to come through and still use the LE.

or in other words is the LED display critical to the operation of the LE ...  Saving me running a test on it ..

It is not critical but without the display it will make it hard to tell what channel it is on and how to put it in test and prg mode.
I have several segments that I will not be using I can send you some if you like.

So I could build and test them with the ones I have and then when the back order came in I could just put them in then.

Thanks

Greetings,,,

I'm sure we could find a few extra ones.  But you could set each one for the start channel and then move it's display to the next, until the back orders arrive.  Musical chairs....

Or you bend the pins and can't use them anymore!  >:D

Hey I'm just saying those pins are easy to bend and sooner or later.

Greetings,,,

Everyone knows you carefully place the led displays into comfortable carrier sockets, from a yet to be built LE.  You then move those comfort controlled sockets, with led displays, from LE to LE, thus avoiding led display bending.  Sockets are cheap.  Comedy's hard...

Or is there are alternate part or alternate vendor for these parts?

Jim

Modified to add the following.

There are other parts on backorder for the LE such as "Modular Jacks 8 PCB TOP ENTRY "  and "IC Sockets 8P ECONOMY TIN ".
The SSR4 has several parts on back orderl.  Plus the power adapters for the wireless transmitter and receiver are also on backorder.

Not being an electrical designer or specialist what alternates can be used or what alternate sources other than Mouser do you recommend?  I did see the post from Mark Shell about an alternate part for the IC sockets and if that is a good part we are only talking about 20 cents additional costs for the 10 that I need so that is a no brainer.  I'm not good enough at reading and understanding specs to pick something out myself.

looks to fit the bill. It is just a tiny bit bigger numbers. .03 " taller numbers so that is the only difference. It is about the same brightness as the other.  Just a little bit dimmer at what we run them.

There is over 1000 of them in stock.

I have several of the power supply subs for the Transmitter and the Standalone Receiver.  I can send you some if you like.
The sub I used for Wall AC Transformer on the wireless parts Co-Op is:

Should we start a list of backup part numbers at least for things which are commonly out of stock?
