SSR4 dmx issue
« on: September 30, 2009, »
I'm having issues with the first SSR4 w/DMX that I build last week.  Reflashed the PIC yesterday, but haven't tried it out since.  I know the dongle is sending DMX, since an LE in place of the SSR4 will turn on the first 4 channels.

I may just build a second one to see if I did something wrong on the first...if that doesn't work, I'll start a new topic here for help...

Did you program a start address into it?

What kind of issues?

First time PIC was programmed.

Assumed starting address of 1.

Ran LSP, used manual HW screen to turn on channels 1 thru 4.  No lights came on.

Tried to program a starting address.

Re-tried manual HW screen to turn on channels.

However, no blinky, no flashy.

Substituted LE controller in place of SSR4 - got channels 1-4 to work fine.

Reprogrammed PIC (with PICkit 2 - verified OK)

Haven't re-tried SSR4 since re-programming PIC, I think.

Get a brief "flash" on channels when plugging in SSR4 to AC, or sometimes when unplugging AC power.

To verify jumpers - for DMX operation:   C/S jumper - on C and middle post.  No termination jumper. S jumper left out.  Last jumper in "operate" position.

If you are testing with just the SSR4, then shouldn't the termination jumper should be on.
If at first you don't succeed,
your not cut out for sky diving

Technically, it should.  However, the DMX cable is so short, and it's coming directly from the Enttec DMX USB Pro, that it doesn't really matter in this case.   I used the same cable and setup when I connected the LE in place of the SSR4, and it dimmed lights just fine.

Have you gotten any SSR4 to work with LSP? Have you tried testing it with Vixen?

I know I've had problems getting my Enttec Open USB to work with LSP, but works out of the box with Vixen.  Luckily I have a hardware controller too, so I'm able to test my SSR4's with some "real" DMX hardware.

If you can get your SSR4 with Vixen, but not LSP, let me know as I have a few ideas. :)

No problem getting my LE's to work with LSP and my Enttec DMX USB Pro, so I know I'm getting good DMX output.

Working on getting the kinks out of the SSR4.

Thot I'd report back here on my progress.

I've got my SSR4 working great, including with a DMX splitter.

I did have some interesting issues with getting LSP to set the start address.  I got weird starting addresses, even when I changed the value I was using on channel 1 using the "Test Hardware" section of LSP on a controller.

This occurred both with an Enttec DMX USB Pro and the Lynx Dongle.

Once I switched to using the DMX USB Pro Utility to output DMX on channel 1, the address of the SSR4 got set exactly how I wanted it.
