wirelees not working when connected to LOR
« on: December 04, 2009, »
I have my DIY dongle connected to a LOR board and then on the output of the LOR it goes to the DIY wireless TX.  I have the converter cable on the LOR on the input and output.  but the wireless does not work.  It only works if i go from the dongle to the TX.  Any ideas why???

Are you sure that the output of the LOR unit is working?

You should need
1.  a converter cable from the dongle to the first LOR (orange/white, orange --> blue, blue/white)
2.  a converter cable from the first LOR to TX (blue, blue/white --> orange/white, orange)

It's not about more, it's about enough.

Do your LOR units have the most current firmware?  It appears to me that they may be altering the DMX stream and confusing the transmitter.  IIRC, RJ is converting the DMX stream into something else to be able to transmitt it properly and the receiver(s) convert it back to DMX for the devices they are feeding and in order to do that, the transmitter must be able to read the input properly to convert it.  If it can't do that due to possible alterations from the LOR unit, then it will do nothing.  It sounds like everything works otherwise so that is where I would look next.  You could also perhaps user a splitter board to feed the LOR unit and the transmitter on separate lines which will prevent the LOR unit from corrupting the signal.

Yea just made a spliter and it works just fine I think you are right about LOR.  Thias is going to be my last year with LOR.  I had to keep it in the yard b/c i got started so late with the DIY I did not have all the controlers i needed

Thanks so much.

From what I've been hearing here and elsewhere (LSP forums), the LOR controller may be "self-terminating" on the last LOR controller when the TX is plugged in (or if you don't have the TX plugged in when you power the LOR controller).

Perhaps the TX doesn't put enough load on the LOR output to disable the self-termination, but when you plug in a LE controller it does.  Do you have the termination jumper in place on the TX?

In another setup, he couldn't get the Renard controllers to work before/after an LOR controller, but could get it to work when he moved the Renards.

You could also try a DMX splitter before the LOR controllers and run the TX from that...I have an extra if you want to borrow one...
