I am asking a company in China for a quote on the min. quanity which is 3000. All of these prices are per piece and DOES not include shipping, the figures are based on 3000 units of each size. These are the regular indoor type extension cords. :o ;D
6FT   USD 0.27
9FT   USD 0.34
12FT   USD 0.41
15FT   USD 0.48
18FT   USD 0.55
20FT   USD 0.60
25FT   USD 0.72

Not bad, but have you checked into shipping from China? That could get crazy.

I am also getting some some quotes, but would like to get a general consensus on how many people use grounded vs. ungrounded. I personaly have always used grounded.... just in case. But in three years of doing this, I have never used a ground device connected to a controller.

So..... If we do manage to get a coop together that is worth doing, what would everyone want GROUNDED or UNGROUNDED.

Thanks,
Carey

We really need to know what the shipping cost will to the COOP manager and then to the members home.  That will give you a true price.

I use grounded so that I can use up all the heavy duty extension cords that I've accumulated from my static display without those grey, three-prong adapters.

if we were to get ungrounded cables, but the receptacles were so that you could plug a grounded extension cord into them, would that be ok?

Not at all saying this is necessary, but what I do, is run grounded input cords, and tie all the grounds together in the box.  Again, not saying this is right, wrong, necessary or other wise, just what I do.

Thats a nice clean install.  :)

This also exactly how I have always done my controllers. (10 so far) But because the controller housing is plastic, and the devices pluging into the controllers are not grounded (light strings and such.... i realize there could be exceptions) I am beginning to question the need for the ground. That is why I am trying to get an idea from everyone else what they prefer.

Thanks for the input.
Carey

I've had good luck and good prices with Monoprice.com

These are full cords sets not pigtails but I usually just cut off the end I don't need.  They have several options for length in 14, 16 and 18 AWG and their quantity pricing is really good.

Wondering if anyone did the math and or received quotes back on shipping from China.

I have a few custom cable vendors I've worked with in the past for various day job needs.

One vendor that I know of will remove jacketing to order and twist and tin the ends.  This type of prep work might make sense, especially considering you would not need to worry about the stripping down of an already completed cable.  If done improperly or not inspected right you could expose a conductor.

Personal preference really.  You might get away with 1' cords; however, you'll have very little slack for stripping the conductors and getting them into the case and adding strain relief to them.  I would probably not go shorter than 1.5'.  Some people prefer longer cords some shorter.
