dongle Assembly
« on: February 06, 2010, »
I have just finished my first Dongle Ver1 and have a few thigs that need clarifying.

       1) The clock chip ( in manual part # 520-TCH4000-X is this the same as BOM # 815-ACH-40-EK ) If so there is no black dot like the manaul says there is a dot in the bottom left looks like .ACH0843 this the dot i put closest to white dot on pcb i hope this was correct.

        2) There was no notch on the Optocoupler ther was a dot and I put it bottom right is this correct

          3) does the mosfet transistor suppose to sit of PCB about 1/8 there were little ribs on leads pulled down untill bottomed out left a gap between the two

I believe I did right just making sure before testing

               Thanks Jeff

Greetings,,,

1)  Does the clock chip you're using have a sharp corner that is closest to the dot on the pcb, and the other three corners are more rounded?

2)  The dot should be on the same end as the notch on the pcb.  Bottom right if the mosfet is to the right and the RJ45 jack on the left.

3)  No problem with going down on the leads until the ribs touch the pcb.

I think I have it right, but just in case, I have attached 5 pictures.  (I hope you can open them).  I have more pics if you need them.

The pictures are too fuzzy for me to tell. Sorry!

Can you get me one with it clear? I can tell you alot right away from a clear closeup.

Suggest including a pic of the back of the board also...    allows double checking the soldering.

You will probably want to trim the leads on the back.

Greetings,,,

1)  Based on the latest pics, looks like the clock is orientated properly.  It looks like the correct corner is at the pcb dot position, but you should be able to see the difference in real life.

2)  Opto looks correctly inserted.

3)  Mosfet looks ok.

Try it and see, at least plugging into the computer, while you wait for any unit for the other side.  If you've already installed the software.

Greetings,,,

Okay, you need to wait for the pic to be programmed for everything to work.  But, if you haven't already, you need to see the Dongle Manual, after Step 6, it tells what to download and run to get the correct drivers loaded.  The Hex file is only needed for when someone programs the pic.  You won't need it if Bill programs it.
