Where exactly do I put the heatsink compound on?

The heatsink compound is used on the regulators and on the triacs.  Place it between the metal tab on the component and the heatsink.

You only need a very small dot of the compound.   suggest using a toothpick or something small to smear it around a little.   Coating the whole back of the triac is not necessary.
