« on: March 16, 2010, »
Hi.
These may be silly questions but i would like to ask them anyway

1.are the BOM parts that come from mouser able to be used in Australia or do i need different bits, Please bear in mind when answering that i am new and have no real idea what i'm doing but am always willing to learn

2.We do not have a mouser outlet in Australia but we do have Jaycar i was hopping to get the bits from them but would need some help with part descriptions also bearing in mind any differences for use in Australia 240v

Hi and welcome, Scott.

Q1. - Yes parts are the same

Q2.
As a fellow aussie i can assure you Jaycar will not have the parts even at their rather expensive pricing.

We actually do have a Mouser outlet in Australia, x-on is an official distributor
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I use x-on when i need just a few bits, once i have anything approaching $100 order i just order direct from Mouser in the US and pay the fedex freight charge of $30, order is normally delivered in 4 days.

Open offer if you don't need parts for a few weeks, i have a Mouser order to place shortly happy to order Dongle parts and then ship to you, save some freight for you.

Jervis Bay, nice place - just down the coast from Canberra where I am :)

Cheers

Phil

Hi,
I confirm parts must to be se same.
When there is a difference for voltage, we have explanations on the wiki for each device on manuals. Thanks to RJ and others to think for foreign country users...

Now, in France, we have 220v, quite the same as in Autralia.

Mouser rest for me the most interesting, regarding first of all pricing but the most "top", service they offered : free shipment through Fedex express (over 70 € parts) including the customs fees and 4 days max delivery, and individual packing on bags for each ref including the stickers and anti-static bags for the chips.

This is really a differienciator.

More: the amazing catalaog and references they managed and something very important to add: availability of each ref in terms of pieces. So very easy to manage and sure to get your devices 4 days later MAX.

Also, for the electronics afficionados, you have access to datasheet and you can easily find a compatible part in case "ouf of stock".

Enjoy ;)

Henri

No PB...
After 3 moths, i found some providers direct from CHINA...
You can always discuss all prices wih them...
So i  buy my LED devices from there nox directly...
Including some round PCB to plug the LED too...

One important thing to know also:
Never pass through HK (Kongkong) shipment, always duty to  pay...
But from SAIGHON fly shipment through EMS : free, no duty....

Interesting thing to know...

FYI : 100 led with resistors: arount $5 the pack...

Good weekend  ;)

Thanks Henri
I will keep that in mind apart from purchases from eBay which pretty much sort them selves out i have not made to many overseas purchases, until now
so will have to work out what is cost effective along the way.

Sure...

What i made, first contact done by E-bay, and quickly go out to deal in direct.
You save E-Bay costs ( up to 10%) wihtout a PB...
Then, always PAYPAL = security...

Going back to the Dongles.... I had strange working trick around ...

I built 2 dongles and same strange things...

On working mode, i have randomly a lot of messages : access denied to the specific port.

I need to unplug the USB cable, plug it again and restart Vixen...

Huum...

Params seems to be ok, port defined correctly with good speed...

1st dongle was recognized as Port 4
2nd one as port 9
( i never use them at same time....)

I have an old DMX emtec standard dongle who works without any PB...

I tried to uninstall all drivers, boot laptop, install them again without any dongle plugged.
checked under (manage/devices/USB and COM ports to see the well mounting detection).

Plug the usb, "message telling me : device ok; ready to run...".

So, i don't understand what's up...

Maybe some ideas?  ???

Cheers  ;)
