Troubleshooting bad rectifier

Hi,

I have finished building my freestyle and the rectifier got really hot and bulged out and now I don't have power anywhere on the circuit.  what could be a possible cause?

I checked for solder bridges and couldn't find any.

Do I need to have all the chips in for the voltages to be right?

I included a pic of the back of the board.
I'll get some of the top later.

Double check the orientation of the parts also, rectifier, transformer, capacitors, etc.

Very hard to tell from the picture, but are the legs under the board trimmed?    and,   when you were testing,  what was the board sitting on?   Could the legs in the power section have been grounded out by something under it?     

(I know...  dumb questions...   but I found that one of my freestyles scorced the wood surface it was sitting on   .......   because of some tea spilt earlier..  )

I double checked the part orientations all looks right, the black strip is the negative side right?

When I was testing it was inside the case and there wasn't anything under it except the plastic screw terminals.

The leads on the parts are trimmed.

If the rectifier was electrostatic sensitive I could have fried it when putting it in, I suppose.

My guess is the Rectifier was in turned one off and this makes a dead short on the output AC from the transformer. also make sure the transformer pin 1 is in the correct place.
