Version 1 vs. Version 2
« on: April 24, 2010, »
Ok...  Just finished building my first controller (V5).  It seems to be working so far.  Now I need to getting it running.  I have a DMX dongle Version 1 board (unassembled), but I'm trying to figure out if it'll be sufficient for my Version 5 LE.  I know the changes that were made from V1 to V2, (status lights, test mode for example)...  Will a V1 dongle work for this, or do I absolutely need to get the V2?

Greetings,,,

Both put out DMX.  The V2 has a couple of extra bells and whistles.  But both work to put out a DMX stream.  That's what's needed.

So the version 1 would be sufficient?  Data steam is fast enough, etc?  Sorry, just learning..

Greetings,,,

Yes, there's no difference in the DMX speed itself.  Both work correctly.  A few minor extras were added to the V2 pcb, but that is all.  V1 works just fine.  With the massive amount of pcbs ordered for the last Coop, there was a chance to make a few small changes that can be helpful, but not needed to do the job.  That's the only difference.
