Driving rgb ledstrips
« on: May 02, 2010, »
Hi all,
I subscribed at the 3rd coop for the LE, but I'm still confused if I made the right choice since my main goal is to steer rgb ledstrips (analog or digital?) at my pool. Also it's not my intension to keep a pc hooked to my installation all the time. Can someone point me in the right direction to accomplish what I have to have buy concerning the steering hardware ?

What kind of lights are they?  Are they AC or DC powered?

I don't have ledstrips atm, this means that I can buy what the specialists say is best. I want a more or less stand-alone system which can be hooked up to a pc or a stereo and eventually can store some sequences and/or play pre-programmed efects. Eventually it can drive RGB ledstrips (analog or digital, AC or DC, I don't care), other ledstrips, normal bulbs. I know, I want it all  ;D but the RGB ledstrips are priority for now.

Ronny,
If you don't want to have a PC connected, and need to run the strips on 12V DC, then the LE isn't the right controller for this.

As dmoore said, you can find cheap standalone controllers that will drive RGB strips in certain color patterns for less money that what it would take to build a Lynx Express.

I'll have a look at this in depth if I find the time this weekend. Hope that I can cancel my order at the coop if nescessary.
Thanks all for the input.
