Call for help: Vixen - RGB Sequencing
« on: May 23, 2010, »
In preparation for things to come, for us who would be newbies... was just curious if someone who has some experience with it could produce a write up or video to explain a how to on configuration and sequencing for projects like this one where RGB units are involved.

Perhaps I'm making more out of it than need be, but so far I have seen how I assign colors based on light color I bought and in turn how to tell Vixen to turn them on, off and dim etc. but how do you tell Vixen to display a certain color or change the RGB LEDs from one color to another?

Thanks in advance for your help.  :)

I know there are easier ways to do it, but this is what I do (see pics below), open Paint program, Edit Colors, Define Custom Colors, Pick the color, look at box with RGB numbers, those are your intensities to get whatever color you choose, and last pic shows adding the Red, Green, and Blue channels to a sequence in Vixen.

Then, wherever you want a certain color, "mix" the colors by varying the intensities of the RGB channels in the sequence. See the second pic, it may be hard to tell, but it shows as purple in the preview window. The only thing you need to do is color in the same blocks on the adjustable preview with all 3 colors. One final note, make sure you use 255 as each color's starting  point in the sequence or you won't get the color mix you expect. Hope that helps,

Bill

Thanks Bob,

Didn't see that in Vixen, until now, saves a lot of steps. Thanks again,

make your life easier when doing RGB (or any sequencing) and take a look at LSP 1.7, the demo wont cost you a thing so you have nothing to loose

No problem. I've never used it myself, but I can see how it would save a lot of time!

Thanks all. So for configuring an Aether I need to dedicate 3 channels for the RGB? Then just mix away?

That appears to be correct.  And don't forget the forth channel for white.

When I was experimenting with RGB lighting in the Adjustable Preview, I can put all the Red, Green and Blue "pixels" on top of each other... but the results aren't what I expect.

If I want to "make" Yellow by overlapping Red and Green Pixels in Adjustable Preview, and setting Red to 255 and Green to 255 (as demonstrated in the Edit Colors Window in Paint)  the result in the Adjustable Preview window is Brown (Identical to 128 Red, and 128 Green in the Edit Colors Window).

The Ather is configured to use 4 channels, the first three for RGB and the last one is white only.  As I understood it, if the forth channel is set to anything but zero, the Ather will ignore the other three and set itself to white at whatever level you set on the forth channel.
