Ok I know that this has been asked a million times, but I have read everything that I can and still cannot communicate with chip. I have a new PICkit 2 and am using the ICSP28 adapter. I have all of the Ls jumped; however my adapter is a little different than the picture in the WIKI. In the software I have PIC18F configuration set. The software recognizes the PICkit 2 but not the chip. I have double and triple checked my orientation and everything appears to be correct. I am obviously doing something wrong, but I don't know what. >:(

Greetings,,,

Do you have the arrow on the Pickit2 plugged in next to an arrow on your pcb board?  And I might try once to turn the pic 180 degrees, if I thought that the pcb you're using might be different.

Yes the arrows are lined up. I already tried to turn the chip 180 and nothing. I also have another microchip, because I am building 2 dongles and I cannot get either one to work.

Greetings,,,

Ok.  Check the Pickit2 Programmer, under Tools.  Is Target VDD Source checked on Auto-Detect?

On the right side, under the big MICROCHIP, is the number set at 5.0?

how about flipping the cable if using one if not using a cable flip the pickit2 180 degrees

Also I guess you are clicking the me me menu option to check communication and you have the latest version of the pickit2 software

One other thing Rick asked I am using application version 2.61

Just installed my Pic2. Could not find the device.

Went to Family Devices and selected the right Pic chip and it found the chip and read the code.

Thanks Dennis, I've already tried that. I have the correct chip selected, at least I think as per my first post.

Thanks for those that replied. This was a duh moment! :-[ If you look at my picture I do not have the chip lock into place correctly! When I installed the chip then lowered the locking lever all is well. Just a learning curve for a new toy!  ;D Thanks again!
