Wirless Lynx Express Module, Flashing Green LED
« on: September 25, 2010, »
I don't have activity on the Lynx Express via Wireless...
BUT, the LE shows DMX, and the DMX Wireless shows Flashing Green LED.
Any ideas?
I've tried 2 TX's and 2 separate LE Receivers...
?
Thoughts?

This a dumb question but you have the shunt set to tx and not rx?

If the above post doesnt fix it, start to narrow down the issue...

Have you checked your dongle to make sure it works?  I am kind of going through a similar issue that my ver 2 dongle isnt working, but when I plug it into the ver 2 TX it still sends a signal like every second and the RX on my LE gets the same green LED, but no DMX is actually transmitted.

Try this first to narrow down the problem.

Unplug the LE (lynx express) and put the jumper back on the "remove for wireless" pins.

Remove the EX from the LE board.

plug in the CAT 5 from the dongle directly to the LE DMX in.

Power up the LE and you should be receiving the Data lite if the dongle is working as it always sends some information (regardless if vixen is running).

Open vixen or whatever program you are using and run a test cycle or the Lynx Text file.

Play the file with the channels covered by your LE and see if it works (you can also run the test in the LE and see if the DMX LED lights up at the end to see if it "sees" DMX).

If it does then the dongle is at least working, if not then the issue with most likely in the dongle (as I am having).

Hope that helps to start your trouble shooting.

If the LE works with the dongle hard wired you can rule out the LE / LE chip program and DMX.  Next would move to the EX and the EX chip being programmed.

Yes.
Wired works.
Not a dumb question. It wasn't at first...
But direct work. Wireless appears to work as the dmx light shows signal.
I'll test better later.

There is a jumper next to the mode button that needs to be removed for wireless, you might check that also.

edit  i guess i should have read the other posts

When it is operating correctly, does the gren led on the le module flash green?

Well. I am at a loss.
Jumpers are both off for universe 1.
The rx/tx has tx jumped
the remove for wireless is off on le.
Hooking directly to dongle works fine.
Le shows dmx data. And green light on le rx flashes.

I have only built 1 le, since my Halloween show doesn't require many channels.

My next thought is to build another le.  Then dongle to le, le to rx/tx. And have it wireless to other le.
Then see if either or neither work.
Doing it this way, I know the terminate on the le plugged into the dongle should be removed since the rx/tx have built in termination, I believe...

Anyone have any thoughts?
Richard

Are you getting the data link blinking? I assume you have the test console or a quick test sequence in vixen running?

Mine works as follows.

The TX green LED blinks about once a second (red solid for pwr)
The EX (LE Wireless board) basically matches that (red solid and green blinks every second or so)

The Data link light (green LED above the 5.5 and 3v LED's on the LE) blinks a lot quickier (more like showing the data being passed through the LE.

If you are getting the green LED blinking on the TX and the EX but not the datalink blinking (with a sequence or test console running) then the problem is probably where the EX connects to the LE.  I would hit the joints again on both sides of the EX and the LE to make sure their is no cold solder joints.

Just my thoughts.

And now it just works...
GO FIGURE,
not that I am complaining or anything...
But, I don't like mysteries...
All I did was plug everything back in and try it...

I had my TX/RX running, getting it's signal from a LOR iDMX. I was screwing around with a sequence for a while, not paying attention to the Express that was hooked up with an EX/RX. It must have been 20 to 30 minutes of inactivity (not playing a sequence), and I noticed the green Data Link LED on the LE was off, I did the same thing (unplug, replug) to the LE and the Data Link light came back on, and everything worked great. I figured it was the inactivity of the iDMX.
