DMX Data
« on: November 22, 2010, »
I completed my first Aether, but am unable to set the channel or control the board using DMX.  I was successfully able to flash the PIC and everything appears to be working.  When I connect the power, all the LEDs flash and the red LED power light stays lit.  When I connect the DMX cable from the dongle to the board, the green data light glows.  If I disconnect the dongle, the green light goes out.  I have tried both DMX ports with the same issue.  Any suggestions?

Are you using the Lynx Express Config Utility?

There is the link in the wiki under the Aether equipment page along with steps that RJ posted

Hope that helps

Yes, I am using the steps outlined in the Wiki.  I also cannot control the board using LSP and the default channel 1, 2, 3.

I would check is are you using the latest firmware (it was released on 11/17 and is on the wiki).  2nd what are you using to flash the chip, as someone had an issue with MLAB doing the flash instead of the express type utility.

Might try a reflash of the pic with the above if you havent already, as the new pic gives you channels 1 - 4 built in.

2nd what are your jumpers set to?  Do you have it set to cable since you are going straight from the dongle.

Those would be the first things I would check...

I built my second Aether and have the exact same issue.  I double-checked my dongle and it properly controls my Express, but not the two Aethers.

I downloaded the firmware from the wiki today but will try the attached in this thread.

I downloaded PICKit 2 Programmer from Microchip.com version 2.61.  What should I use to flash the PIC?

Jumpers are set to cable, terminate and operate.

Thanks guys for your help!

It works!   ;D

I used the attached hex file and reflashed the second Aether.  I still need to test the first one.

I think The firmware here can be done in MPlab or the utility. What did you use on the last try?

No mplab is the programming system you can use it to program.

Did you try to program it with the new firmware?

Let me know if that does not fix it we will get together and work through it step by step.

Make sure to program a start address cause I could not and this firmware is not setup with one.

This was just to get it to program in MPLab it is the same as what is in the wiki with the exception of the wiki firmware has a start address programmed into it.

I have all my stuff tore apart and could not setup the aether to use it to set the address and read it back.
