channels mixed up
« on: November 28, 2010, »
I have a number of sequences that run fine with the preview but when ran with the lights wrong channels are lighting up.
Ive checked all my expresses and even ran the dmx deck to make sure.
All the profiles are the same.  Any suggestions

Just a thought,

Someone had issues with vixen 2.5 doing this. Some issue with profiles. I do not remember who or if there was a easy fix. Are you on version 2.5?

using ver 2.1
When i set up my expresses in order to save on wires I rearranged some of the channels.  I then redifined new profile order.  Is there anything else that you might have experienced

Bryan,
Open a sequence and right click on the channel list and click on Toggle Channel Outputs and see if the channels match what you arranged them to. If not, you will need to reorder them in your profile.
Hope that helps.

the channels seem to be ok.  just wondering if maybe there"s something im missing.  the order is good just what actually is being sent out.  Also noticed different sequences have different problems.  Guess I need to rebuild the sequences.

Hi Bryan,

Is this new controllers with the problem?

I built some new SSR4 this year and I they are backwards (Channel 1 = Channel 4, etc).  <fp.

In fact, I made a few mistakes out in the yard this year. I used RJ's DMX Deck and walked through all of the channels making sure what I thought should be was on. I totally wired one Arch backwards and had the wrong start address on a controller.

Sometimes its just back to the basics

Cheers

dont think its backwards.  Only a few channels are off.  Maybe profile is different than the one I should have.
Not sure.

PS  Went through with DMX deck and everything is good

De-attach profile and then attach the profile you want.

ok  not sure but I think I may have found the problem.  I used dmx deck and all channels light up in proper order.  I looked at my preview and scrolled through the channels and the numbers dont match the sequence.  Is there a way to change the preview around.  Also what does "respect channel outputs during playback"  mean.  I dont have it checked.

rearranged 1 sequence and it didnt make a difference.  The adjustable preview still shows the old layout of channels.  Do i need to redo that in the proper order?

Anyone

Forget the preview - Does the outside lights work as needed? Besides you shouldn't have the preview enabled when you run your show. It just slows things down. Did you use a new profile or update the previous one?

to answer your question, Yes you would need to redraw the lights to the proper channels.

the way the sequences were layed out to the way the expresses worked are different.  To save wire and just the way the channels lined up I needed to rearrange some channels.  When I rearranged them in the sequence I still have them doing the wrong things.  They are all plugging in properly (tested on DMX card) and those channels corrspond to the way they should be.  I have noticed the only thing that isnt right is the way they are in the preview screen.  I have disables the preview but still runs wrong.

If you are using a profile, you have to change the channel outputs in the profile.

In vixen:

Profile -> manage -> profile name -> Done

Your profile should be open now.

On the left hand side of the ouput names will be 3 boxes.

The top box (green and red) will let you change the channel output.

Put them in order, the first one will be the first channel of the first controller.

Changing the channel order (box) on the right side of the channel  names will not change the way that they output.

Note: I have never used DMX, not sure if the same rules apply.
