Dongle v2 Not working
« on: November 29, 2010, »
I am having similar problems.  I bought a dongle untested from the sale/trade section.  The seller said it was untested. Everything looks correct. I down loaded the driver, ran the program and it said driver installation complete. When I hook the dongle up to the USB cable nothing happens. tried uninstall and reinstall of the driver and still no luck.
Where do I begin to look to trouble shoot?
 It is a v2.0 board.
There is no cap on the test pins, do not know if it should be there. Neither led lights up.
I am using Windows xp service pack 2.   Help!  Fred

Hi Fred,

When you plug the dongle into the usb port. Do you get the usb noise from Windows?

If not then the usb module could have a problem.

Hi Fred,

I split this thread out so RJ and others know its a new problem.

I don't have a v2 dongle. I believe when you plug it in to the computer with the usb cable. Both lights should be on and you should get the windows dong noise. If you have a volt meter put the leads across the cap (little yellow/orange blob to the right of the pic chip) and it should be close to 5v dc. I think you need the jumper connected to the pins.

If possible at night (USA Eastern Standard Time), check to see if RJ is in teamspeak and let him help you trouble shoot it. There is step by step directions in the Wiki software section.

Cheers

I have just finished building my V2 Dongle, and the Red light comes on when power is detected. The green light will start flashing once the driver has been completely installed (At least that was the order of sequences when I installed it last night)

Also check out this.  I had one that seem to play dead.  I found the 5v from the usb connector was not getting to the rest of the circuit.  I had to mod it.

I have 5v out of the usb cable, when I checked the usb board I only see .64 volts between pins 2 and 12. I also got the same .64v at the pos. side of the red LED also.  Fred

Hi Fred,

Well that doesn't sound good.

It seems like the power is not getting from the usb to the pcb. You might have a bad usb module on the dongle. Any chance you can join us in teamspeak to do some trouble shooting.

I would also consider removing the USB module from its socket and make sure that it is seated properly with no bent pins but the fact that the computer is not seeing it is not a good sign.

See the last two posts in the thread.....

I am so sorry.  I did not attach the link in my above post.  Look at the first picture where I used a lead from a resistor to make a small jumper.  As soon as I touched the 5V the computer went beep beep and the usb device was present and working.  The next set of pictures is where I soldered a wire from the bottom to the 5V pin on the usb board.

Thanks to Ron and all that replied!!   I tried Ron's jumper idea and it worked, the computer saw and loaded the drivers. I will make the jumper wire and solder it tomorrow. Bed time now. Thanks again Ron
