SSR4 Dead?
« on: December 03, 2010, »
I built 10 SSR4's flashed the pics and programmed the addresses, with no apparent problems. A few days ago I finally got enough lights setup and cable strung to get some lights blinking. Everything is working fine. Today I got more lights up and a total of 4 of my SSR4's working just fine. The last one in the string I had 3 flood lights hooked up, and they were working. I hooked up one more SSR4 and I have a bunch of blinking lights except the flood lights are now not working. I messed around with making sure the cords and cables were all plugged in good, even tried regular Christmas lights plugged in, that one ssr4 is not working!

Did I kill it some how? or do they have to connected in the order they are addressed?

I did not try it by itself. (I'll try that in the morning)

Thanks,
Mark

How many and what kind of flood lights.

Flood lights could easily over load an SSR4 depending on what they are.

Flood lights
1 100 watt white (I have a 50 watt to replace it, the 100 watt is too bright)
1 85 watt red
1 85 watt blue

I had a test sequence running each light was on for 20 seconds and none of them were on at the same time.

Check the fuse first.

The fuse is good.

The ssr4 works fine stand alone. (at least for a minute)

I think I may have a gremlin or 2 running around!

I shut vixen down late last night. This morning all the led lights after the splitter were on.

The big thing is my wife likes the blinky/flash of the lights. Thank you!

Found a gremlin! It works much better now.

I had a bad solder joint.

I have a strange problem.  I have 2 SSR4-DMX wired that seem to lockup after a while and don't function.  When I power cycle (unplug and count to 5 then back on) them they work fine for a while.  I have about 20 working.  I know it is not a data issue as there are others down stream that work.  I have re-flashed the PIC and it did not make a difference.  Any thoughts?  I kmow there is a power issue when these are used with wireless but these are wired.  I am going to run some more power cords tomorrow to  see if it helps.   Fortunatly it is a "non-critical" element in the show.

I would suggest definitely trying different extension cords and different circuits if you can. The ssr4's can be sensitive to power issues since so much is packed into them.

Let us know if that helps.
