Tell me this is something caused by a person or animal or other than the Aether itsself

Call it a Moose-adventure.   Happened while troubleshooting the cat5 connection   (not getting solid data stream into the chip from the RJ45 connectors.       With power on,   I turned to pick up the VM and my robe caught the corner of the enclosure....   tipping the whole thing over......     and the next thing is that I see a flash.....       The only thing conductive that was near the flash was  .01 dia solder.     After the flash, the solder wire was a little bit shorter.     No other "obvious" damage.

Well call me silly

I thought the Ka-BOOM protocol was removed

Does the Lynx Line come with a Moose Clause?

.... and my robe caught the corner of the enclosure....

I thought sorcerers were supposed to use their wands to fix things and not let their robes get in the way.

I have not even started to build my first aether yet, I've got a lot to learn.

Damage was limited to just the one piece of the one trace and one fuse..    Now i'm back to searching for that RJ45 weak link that is corrupting the data connection.

The one thing that I do not want to do is to desolder the RJ45 connectors but I'm starting to suspect that I will have to .    I've been following the traces under magnifying glass and have not found any extra blobs of solder that jump the track.  I have cleaned up the soldering (bad job) under the resistors and capacitor that are in the signal area.  Ditto on the pic  (damaged the orignal pic during the desolder)  ...

sorry guys.... there will be  no pics on this area of the board....    (it reallly is not pretty)   .

how about using your meter to see if something is missing from the rj-45 to points on the pcb?

Too early to remember what on the rj-45 goes to the areas on the pcb

This morning I did a quick check   (with power off)  and there is less than 1 ohm resistance between matching pins on the two RJ45 connectors and I did not see any obvious connectivity between the RJ45 pins and ground/neutral.    Tonight, I'll test resistance from the RJ45 pin to the PIC chip  (and any other pathways that seem even slightly logical).
