xLights Video - Demo Setup and Run a show
« on: December 13, 2010, »
Hi Folks,

I put together a quick little demo how to setup and run xlights. I put the folders on the desktop just for the video. They can be placed anywhere on your computer and call the folders and playlist anything you like (with in reason).

Sorry about the messy desktop, its one of my at work computers. Since I don't have a dongle at work I lied to xlights about the com port you will need to use the com port that your computer assigned to the dongle. I am just showing the basics it can be more detailed.

At the end of the video I forgot to save the schedule so when I exited xLights it ask me to save the changes.

Very nice. Thanks for the video, Xlights looks great a real credit to them. I might be using it myself next year depending on what I do for software.

Thanks RJ

Yes Matt and Csf are doing a great job with it. Its only 0.2 beta software to boot.

I forgot to mention that the vixen sequences are unmodified, meaning I didn't detached the profile or the preview I don't even think I had the dongle config in the sequences.

Cheers

Thanks for the video Rick, that was a great idea, I think many people will find it helpful. I watched it my self and I cant think of any thing you missed.

I am glad to see how many people are having successes with xlights so far. I think next year will be very exciting as a whole bunch new features are added.

Hi Csf,

No problem, I figure its a way to give a little back to you and Matt.
Hoping to be able to run a seq without audio in the next release. Like on the 24th after the show is done. I just have the Nativity lights on the rest of the night until Christmas night when the show starts again.

Cheers

There are two work a rounds you can currently do.

Create a blank audio file in audacity and then make a sequence using that blank audio file.

Use xTester to select which channels you want to turn on and use the dimer to turn them all on. Unfortunately this method there will be no ability to schedule.

I do agree that we need to implement a way to run a sequence with no audio.

Funny I was going to go with the xtester and just turn them on. I never thought of creating a blank audio file.

Many thanks

C++ using the wxWidgets library, so it compiles on Windows, OSX, and Linux. Source code is available on SourceForge.
