PICKIT which one on ebay
« on: December 13, 2010, »
Sorry guys I know this has been hashed before.  I am ready to buy one and ebay has a bunch at good prices.  I want a 2 or 3 that will have everything I need to do my

express
DMX Dongle
aether
aeon
ssr4 dmx

If and when needed...

I have never programmed one yet.  Please post a few links to some combo type kits that have everything I will need.  I think I will need one with the extra boards to put the eproms in.

Thanks

Ron

All I can advise is to steer clear of the clones, or you'll wind up with a box full of crap on your shelf in addition to the brand name microchip pickit that you finally bought.

PicKit 2 is tried and true. This is what I have and it's been an absolute breeze to program LE & Dongle pics.

Thanks Mike.  I did not see that the ones I was looking at were clones.  They were about half the price.  I now see the good ones cost a little more.

A lot of people have bought from this guy through ebay and he has the adapters included.

I got the PicKit 3 for the future proofing and works great with the beta express programming utility.

I bought my Pickit 3 with adapter from him.   When I went to prog my SSR pics I discovered that the ICSP20A adapter had a defective lever.  I sent him one quick email and he promptly sent me a new one!   Now that's great service!

I went ahead and ordered the pickit 3 from him a few days ago.  About 3 hours after ordering it I got an email saying it shipped.  I hope to have it next week.

Following everyone's recommendations of J1sys, I ordered the pickit2 kit with all of the adapters today....along with the xtronic solder station and some other goodies.

I bought a bunch of LEs and want to be sure I can update firmware.  But the first thing I found was the darned MICROCHIP PICKIT 2 costs an arm and two legs !

A lot of years have gone by since these were first tested.  I am curious if anyone has found one of the low cost Chinese PICKIT 2 clones that actually works the same as the MICROCHIP PICKIT 2 ?
Thanks,

I thought the pick it 3 required all sorts of contortions.  I need something the just works. Without having to perform manual workarounds.  Has the firmware been updated for the 3, to allow clean operation?
Thanks,
