xLights Hardware Suport
« on: December 14, 2010, »
This will be a topic to post what hardware you have successfully driven from xLights. Please put the os and xLights version in your post. I think this will help any new users and will help us keep track of what works and what needs to be improved in xLights.

So right now I have personal tested xlights with the flowing hardware from windows (for this post I am leaving at version number since some test were done with source builds, prior to 0.2 and should not effect results on 0.2 since network support was only improved)

Dongles:
LOR usb rs485b
LOR usb rs485
ENTTEC - DMX USB PRO

Network accessories:
LOR pair of Easy Light Linker

Hardware:
LOR CTB16PC
LOR 1602W
LOR 16D QC

Good idea! I think I will just list what I've used in a "production" environment, because during testing I run through many other configurations. I would also add that it would be good to list whether you are running Vixen or LOR sequences, or both.

For Halloween 2010:

Windows 7 (32 bit)
LOR S2 Sequences to MP3 music
LOR USB dongle
LOR CTB16PC
Arduino Duemilanove - xLights script sent serial port commands allowing Arduino board to report sensor status and to control a stepper motor
16 channels

For Christmas 2010:

Windows 7 (64 bit)
LOR S2 sequences to MPEG movies
3 Lynx dongles
5 Lynx Express (2 with EX/RX receivers)
4 Lynx DC Controllers
3 LOR CTB16PC
2 LOR CTB16D
3 Aus Christmas Lighting TP3244
1000+ channels

Matt

Beside the AL question above I have a question on using Renards in a wireless environment.

It is my understand that the parity needs to be "mark" and it requires 2 stop bits. I suspect I am missing it but how do I set that In Xlites network setup.

Also since it uses addressable firmware will xlites handle it properly? I would suspect it does but just want to verify.
Thanks
Mike

Only if it is one of the AL products that understands DMX. xLights does not support the AL protocol.

I have only tested xLights with standard Renard (non-addressable) firmware. Doesn't mean it won't work with addressable firmware, I just don't think anyone has tried it.

When transmitting to a Renard network, xLights automatically configures the port for 2 stop bits, no parity. These options are not configurable in xLights.

THIS IS A RE_POST FROM ANOTHER FORUM within Xlights.....

I could use a little help with Xlights.  12 LSP files converted to .lms files, then I ran the setnet scripts to modify the network settings:

 networks = [{'stIndex':0,'endIndex':47, 'net':0},
                {'stIndex':48,'endIndex':479, 'net':1},
                {'stIndex':480,'endIndex':911, 'net':2},
                {'stIndex':912,'endIndex':1343, 'net':3},
                {'stIndex':1344,'endIndex':1487, 'net':4},]

Where the first 48 channels are LOR; 3-16 channel box units 1-3 and the next four are a single E680 E1.31 with 4 universes; 3 universes with 432 channels (144 pixels) each, and the last universe has 144 channels.

A view of the converted files shows network="0" for the LOR boxes; the the Network="..." for the four universes in 'proper order'.  looks good!

Xlights:
Network setup:

Network type      Port           Baud or universe        Last Channel

  LOR                    COM3               57600                       48
E131                    239.255.0.1           1                          432
E131                    239.255.0.2           2                          432
E131                    239.255.0.3           3                          432
E131                    239.255.0.4           4                          432

All looks good?

Make a test playlist: 'all lights on' (it's one of the LMS files I converted).  Play the file; everything lights up except for the last universe (4).  No lights.  If I run Lighting Test....I can light up the last Universe and everything else for that matter.  But the sequences will not 'run' universe 4.

Long story..... Must of screwed something up in the long conversion process..

Your Thoughts!!

John

It is my understanding that renard addressable wireless must have mark parity. LSP actually had to be changed to configure this setting in order for the wireless addressable to work
Thanks

You have to ensure the web server is disabled or you will get no light activity on the 4th socket (which is defaulted to universe #4 as well). Either reconfigure the E680/1 to disable the web server or shorten the timeout. You can disable it manually by entering "QUIT 999" on the web GUI. The red LED on the E680 indicates if the web server is active - this must be off to run traffic to this 4th socket.
