Dongle through a hub

Is it OK to use an external hub to connect the dongle and will the FTDI driver work through a hub. Does it need to be a powered hub if it's OK to use a hub?

My Lynx dongle is connected through a powered usb hub and my computer recognizes it just fine as COM3.
