Pic Programming

Will the PicKit 2 be able to be used to program the PICs for the SSC's?  I thought I read something about that somewhat (can't remember if it is a yes or no), but I can't seem to find that.

Can Pic kit 3 also be used for programming? Can someone explain the difference in the two? Thanks,George

Yes the PicKIT 3 can program all of RJ's creations.

Main difference is the PicKit 3 is the "newer" version and supposedly more "future proof" for future chips, while the PicKit 2 is the last model but very proven over time.

Both have an easy utility to make programming easy, but the PicKIT 3's version is still in beta and not foolproof at this point.

I have the PicKIT 3 and have not had any problems programming anything.

Hope that helps.

I think you'll find a lot of people on this forum, including myself, have purchased from j1sys.  I was happy with my order and it was shipped quickly. I went with the PICKIT 3 figuring I might as well have the latest technology.  If you wanted to save a little money, it sounds like you could get away with the PICKIT 2 for programming DLA projects (also available from j1sys).

+1 for J1sys.  Get the one with the boards if you want the complete ability.  The dongles dont have the ICSP pins so you need the boards to program those.

We use the 18 and 28 pin PIC's, the picture you posted showed a 14 pin adapter. Going to need more adapters

or buy the 2 needed separately.

Agree with what he said above about needing the other parts, but also looking at your picture that is a clone so I am not really sure about how to program (what software it uses) compared to the MicroChip PicKIT 2 and 3, so you might have to learn that part on your own.

Should work fine as long as the software is easy   ;D

Ed from J1sys is a wizard.  I buy from him just for the technical support he provides.
